Sprayer Bottle

Measuring Tape
Clean Cloth
Soft Squeegee

Before you start

If your wall is freshly painted, please wait around 4 weeks before applying your wall mural. Most importantly though, please ensure your wall paint does not contain Polymers such as Teflon or a silicon.

An easy way to find out if your wall does contain these elements is to lightly spray the wall with water. If it beads, not runs, the paint contains silicon or Teflon. This can cause adhesion failure and additional preparation, such as a barrier coat i.e. a gloss water based varnish, needs to be applied before wall mural application.

Teflon or silicon based paints are designed to stop foreign materials sticking to it, so although the wall fabric we use is a very high quality

product, it has not been designed to stick to these surfaces without a barrier coat applied first. We recommend using an Isopropyl Alcohol (available from Bunnings) before installation.

It is not recommended to apply murals during excessively hot or humid times. As our wall murals are sold as a DIY product, WALLZ holds no responsibility for the application of the item or how it performs once hung.

Please trial with a test sample first. Need some extra stick? Try a Spray Adhesive (i.e Shelleys Kwik Grip Spray Contact Adhesive, available at Bunnings) to the top 10cm or the required areas to gain extra adhesion & tack. Best for harsher environments.

This is how you do it

Step 1

Prepare your wall

Proper preparation is important to ensure proper adhesion of your WALLZ wallpaper.

Start by removing any fittings and fill any holes to create a smooth, flat surface. Next, clean the wall to remove any dirt, dust and grease, making sure that the wall is completely flat and clean before starting.

Step 2

Get ready

Unpack your wallpaper from the mailing carton and lay them out in order facing up. All panels are numbered on the bottom. Don’t worry if you notice any creases or bubbles. This is natural and should disappear once applied to the wall.
Self installation pack contains drop sheet, spray bottle, utility snap knife, squeegee, sponge or cloth. Lay the drop sheet on the floor at base of wall. Fill spray bottle with water.

Step 3

Start at the top

The easiest place to start is the top left. Peel approx 10cm of the backing paper off and carefully align with the corner of your wall.

Ensure that it is perfectly straight before proceeding, as this panel sets the basis for the rest of the wall.

Step 4

Start sticking

With your helper holding the bottom of the panel, gradually peel off the backing paper 10cms at a time and start applying from the top corner.

Try to be gentle as harsh application may scratch the print.

Step 5

Work your way down

Using your hands or soft squeegee work your way down and outwards, carefully removing any bubbles or creases as you go.

If you find a crease too big to get out, just pull the panel up a little, re-position and continue trying not to stretch the fabric.

Step 6

Apply next panel

Once your first panel has been applied, it’s time for the next one. Remembering that all panels have be printed with a 10mm overlap!

Once again align at the top, and have your helper align at the bottom.

Step 7

Trimming around power point & switches

Ensure the covers have been removed. Smooth panel up to and over the switch.

Make a small criss-cross with knife in the centre of switch, then carefully extend the cuts to the corners of the switch and finally trim around switch. Re-position and continue trying not to stretch the fabric.

Step 8

Final trim and admire

After all the panels have been applied, the final step is to remove any excess.

There should always be a little trimming to be had, as we add in 20mm on the far side panel and 20mm on the bottom edge. Simply and carefully trim that away with a sharp blade.
